I’ve barely left the house since last Wednesday, as the nasty flu I’d caught turned to pneumonia. I’m exhausted, weak and lacking appetite (seriously!) and yet there’s been a few silver linings these last ten days: I’ve spend more time with Mike than I’ve had since our honeymoon, my gratitude towards Netflix is now at a new height (if you haven’t already, you need to watch Hip-Hop Evolution) and so is my appreciation for little things I was always kinda taking for granted. So, while I’m looking forward to going on a date again or cooking a full meal, I am grateful for being given this time off, the support of my family and the power of hydration. Stay positive, stay well, stay grateful x [READ MORE]

Pumpkin, crispy bacon & feta muffins

I know it’s almost Christmas (wait, what???) and all I should be thinking of is presents (edible or otherwise) and delicious seasonal desserts. I know. But I still have a small (not so small) place in my heart for pumpkins. My go-to dishes are usually soup or a banana-style sweet loaf (minus the bananas) but this year I got on a serious muffin roll. There were sweet, nutty muffins with cream cheese frosting, but also generous sized savoury ones. Oh man, these ones were my favourite yet. [READ MORE]

Happy Friday, happy 2nd of December y’all! Can you believe we’re only three weeks away from Christmas? Honestly, where did the time go? I’ve been sick as a dog the last couple of days, so I’ve had plenty of time to think about all sorts of things- some silly and unnecessary and others kinda on the more profound side. We have quite a few things lined up for the weekend- fingers crossed I’ll be able to get out of bed and enjoy some relative peace and quiet before the manic countdown to Christmas begins. Stay warm, stay well and positive. [READ MORE]

Persimmon & apple french toast

My love for breakfast has been well documented here. I’m down for almost anything, almost every morning. Οn week days, I like to keep things simple with quick smoothies, full of goodness and flavour, or crunchy and perfectly sweet homemade granola, a nutty bar or hot and creamy quinoa. Some days though call for eggs and I’m so down with that as well. Creamy and pretty? Yes, please. Saucy & spicy? A thousand times yes. And let’s not forget chocolate: in a pudding, or spread on warm crusty bread or mixed with booze for the perfect morning warmer. I’m in for all of the above. [READ MORE]

Happy Friday y’all! Yesterday was Thanksgiving and I found myself once again grateful for so many things, among which the old familiar list: my family, my man, many colorful, interesting & hilarious friends, living in London (that amazing, overwhelming son of a gun) and the fact that I have the luxury of sharing stories and recipes here with y’all. I try not to take any of the above for granted; I try to pause every once in a while and really count my blessings. Being able to be thankful for things which we often take for granted really is a luxury many don’t have. So let’s be grateful. [READ MORE]

Cranberry, dark chocolate & pistachio pavlovas

I’ve been doing a lot of baking the last couple of weeks. Maybe it’s because of the cold and gloomy weather, which increases my longing for nesting and quiet nights in. So I bake. I measure, stir and fold; I go back to familiar recipes and test out new ones. I gather ingredients– sometimes carefully, lovingly, savouring their looks, taste, smell and texture; other times, I hurry and grow impatient- yet even then, when the kitchen and my spirit seem to be on fire, when my mind is not quite there- even then, there’s some kind of magic in the process: in seeing ingredients change before my eyes, coming together, a whisk here, a fold there and there really is magic. Or something close to it, something you can savour, be somewhat proud of and share with others. [READ MORE]

This week has come and gone kinda in a flash. Between running mundane errands, sending pre Christmas presents and getting back to my yoga practice, I also spent quite a bit of time making scary amounts of hummus and spinach pie for a private event. Now I’m more than ready for the weekend, which will include more cooking (a chocolate bundt cake with salted caramel is in the cards), Christmas decoration planning and research for the best holiday gifts out there. Have a great one y’all! [READ MORE]

Chorizo, kale & blue cheese pasta bake

Let’s start the week with the absolute best food in the planet: pasta (duh!). Ever since I was a kid I loved everything about pasta: all the varieties and their versatility, how they’re basically the perfect canvas for different sauces and ingredients, textures and layers. From a perfectly green, salty and nutty pesto, the elegance of a squid ink sauce, or the wonderful simplicity of a one pot dish, pasta is king. As part of a tuna salad, in a jar or featuring the best summer ingredients, to more wintery versions, featuring dark colours and no frills. And of course, my all time favourite version: covered in a cheese sauce and baked until bubbly, golden brown and delicious. If I had to choose one comfort food, it would be this. Every time. Gee, am I glad for the weekend! This past week has been impressively crap on many fronts and I couldn’t be happier it comes to an end. The sudden cold weather, tons of work, news and under the weather-ness, really makes a couple days of calm reflection a necessity. And it kinda started last night when, between wine, copious amount of semi junk food, gossip and talk of new US president, my lady friends and I had one of the most honest conversations I’ve had in a long time. As women, professionals, friends, partners and everything in between, there’s so much we are angry about, afraid of and dumbfounded by; yet the realisation that change can and must start from the way we each deal with the various curveballs which life throws us, be it small or big, and from being there for each other, eyes, ears and heart open, is quite soothing and sufficiently hopeful.
