Spicy-lemony-linzer-cookies

These past few days, I’ve been longing for some extra Christmas spirit-ness and festiveness and joy and whatnot. The house is fully (yet not full on) decorated, our Christmas jumpers are out and some most of the presents are wrapped; yet there was something missing. I couldn’t put my finger on it for a while and then it hit me: baking! I hadn’t done any festive baking this year. You know what I’m talking about: the kind that’s easy and comforting, that makes the the house smell of cloves and cinnamon and citrus and butter, the kind that leaves you with small delicious bites, to be displayed on the coffee or dining table for everyone to enjoy. Peanut butter, cream cheese & chocolate parfaits

I love making dessert- almost every time, it’s a little daunting, yet I always go into it with the same enthusiasm and anticipation for the end result. As soon as the weather softens up and the first spring fruit appears, I crave buttery, juicy pies, and simple tarts with delicious toppings; I can also barely keep myself from making fruity frozen treats or the first batch of ice cream and frozen yogurt of the season. Buttery & nutty Greek Christmas cookies (kourampiedes)

This year I’ll be spending the holidays in London. It’s the first time I won’t be in Greece with my family and I’m feeling pretty bittersweet about it. See, I really love my loud, overbearing, inspiring, always-in-your-face family. I love and miss them constantly. Plus, they really know how to do Christmas. There’s always beautiful decorations all around the house, tons of hugs, tons of energy (I mean, tons of energy, which translates to heated debates on just about anything, arguments, long embraces, lots of frantic running around), tons of delicious food and presents. I know I’ll miss out on all these- but then again, I’ve been living in London for over ten years now and I’ve never spent the holidays here. It’s about time I gave it a try and created some new traditions, don’t you think? [READ MORE]

Halloween Bat Cookies with Chocolate, Coffee & Sea salt

I’m crazy about Halloween; seriously, it’s the holiday I mostly look forward to, with Christmas being a close second.  Even though I didn’t grow up celebrating it, once I moved to London, I was hooked. I think the reasons behind it are quite simple: I absolutely love dressing up (I almost always go for a gory theme- which is kind of the point, I think) and spookily decorating the house. I love watching moderately scary movies (as much as I hate to admit it, I’m such a big woosh- I only managed to watch all Scream films last year) and, my favourite, enthusiastically carving pumpkins of all sizes. At the same time, I really like the idea of honouring the dead. No matter how commercial Halloween is, for me, that’s the core of the whole celebration and the main reason I’m behind it. [READ MORE]

Chocolate chip cookies

I’ve been called many things over the years, but the two that keep regularly coming up are ‘princess’ and ‘pain in the ass’. I would love to elaborate and/or explain, but, really, I think I should better keep quiet. I can be both of these things, but, thankfully, I ‘m also often very easy to please. On that note, chocolate chip cookies are just the thing for me: there’s nothing exotic there, but good-quality ingredients, barely handled, briefly cooked, resulting in perfect cookies. [READ MORE]
